What does B6 do in regards to porphyria?

Pyridoxine [B6] acts as a cofactor in porphyrin biosynthesis.

The human requirement has not been definitely established.

It is however a matter of record that those not receiving enough develop

What does Vitamin B-6 do?

Vitamin B6 plays a role in the synthesis of antibodies by the immune system,
which are needed to fight many diseases.

It helps maintain normal nerve function and also acts in the formation of red
blood cells.

Vitamin B6 is also required for the chemical reactions needed to digest proteins.

The higher the protein intake, the more the need for vitamin B6.

Can experimental Vitamin B6 use lead totoxicity in the body?

Porphyria patients in growing numbers have reportedly been experimenting with
the use of vitamin B6 or the p5p regimen.

It has long been known the the ingestion of megadoses (2 to 6 g/day for 2 to 40
mo) of pyridoxine, may cause progressive sensory ataxia.

In addition it can cause profound lower limb impairment of position and vibration
sense.

With extra doses of pyridoxine the senses of touch, temperature, and pain are
less affected.

What is a niacin or p5p deficiency?

It has been shown that Niacin in relation to p5p is that in a p5p deficiency,
tryptophan metabolism is impaired.

When tryptophan metabolism is impaired, this willprogress to the point that
niacin is no longer beingmanufactured by the body.

When this takes place there is a Niacin deficiency.
